Deepti Sharma nominated for ICC Women's Player of the Month after India's sweep of Zimbabwe
Deepti Sharma has been shortlisted for the ICC Women's Player of the Month award for October after an unbeaten hundred and five wickets in India's clean sweep of Zimbabwe
The ICC revealed its October shortlists from Dubai on Thursday, with the India all-rounder joined on the women's list by Australia's Annabel Sutherland and Bangladesh's Sobhana Mostary.
The men's award will be contested by South Africa all-rounder Marco Jansen, Pakistan's Arafat Minhas and West Indies captain Shai Hope, whose month was built largely on a run of white-ball scores against India.
Nominees are shortlisted on performances between the first and last day of the calendar month, and the winners are decided by a combination of an independent voting academy and a public vote.
A hundred in Vadodara and five wickets in the series
Deepti's month turned on a single innings. She made 106 not out in the ICC Women's Championship ODI against Zimbabwe in Vadodara, her second hundred in the format, in a match India won by 121 runs.
It was her only innings with the bat across the three-match series, which India swept 3-0.
Her off-spin did the rest. She took three wickets in the Vadodara match and two in the series opener, finishing with five wickets at an economy rate of 3.42.
In the T20I leg that preceded it, Deepti made 49 from 37 balls in the first match at Raipur and took two wickets.
Sutherland and Mostary complete the women's shortlist
Sutherland was nominated for an ODI series against Bangladesh that she shaped at both ends. In the opener at Brisbane she took four wickets and finished unbeaten on 25 as Australia won by seven wickets.
She closed the series with 74 not out and two more wickets, ending with 99 runs and six wickets across the three matches. She also featured in Australia's T20Is against New Zealand, taking a wicket and scoring 19 runs.
Mostary's case rests on the innings of her career. Against Australia in Brisbane she made 118 from 134 balls with 18 boundaries, the highest ODI score by a Bangladesh woman, in a total of 220 for 6.
She finished the series with 129 runs at an average of 43.
Hope's record chase leads the men's nominees
Hope's October was dominated by West Indies' tour of India. In the third ODI at New Chandigarh he made 162 not out to carry his side to 352, the highest successful ODI chase in West Indies' history.
He carried the form into the T20I series, scoring two centuries including 102 not out from 50 balls in the fourth match.
Hope ended the five-match series with 261 runs at a strike rate of 190.51.
Jansen and Minhas round out the men's three
Jansen played three World Test Championship matches against Australia in October, scoring 198 runs and taking 13 wickets as South Africa won the series 2-1.
His decisive contribution came at Gqeberha, where 85 with the bat and six wickets set up a win by an innings and 31 runs. He added a half-century and three wickets in the decider and rose to the top of the ICC Men's Test all-rounder rankings.
Minhas scored 149 runs and took nine wickets across five ODIs in Pakistan's home tri-series. He made 59 against England and then returned 6-40, the second-best ODI figures by a Pakistan bowler at home.
In the final against Sri Lanka he hit 61 from 31 balls as Pakistan chased down 326, and was named Player of the Series.
How the winners are chosen
The ICC Voting Academy — journalists, former players, broadcasters and Hall of Fame members — accounts for 90 per cent of the vote, with registered fans voting through the ICC website for the remaining 10 per cent.
Voting is open now on the ICC's awards pages.
The October winners will be announced on the ICC's digital channels in the second week of the month.
