Ishan Kishan’s 270 powers East Zone to mammoth 708 in Duleep Trophy final

Ishan Kishan produced a sensational 270 as East Zone piled up 708 on the second day of the Duleep Trophy final against South Zone in Chennai.

Resuming unbeaten on 111, Kishan dominated the South Zone attack on a largely unresponsive Chepauk pitch. He took on both pace and spin, repeatedly using his feet and sweep shots to keep the bowlers under pressure.

Kishan eventually fell just three runs short of his highest first-class score, having faced 334 deliveries and struck 30 fours and seven sixes. His dismissal came late in the day when he attempted to find the boundary but dragged a lofted shot to R Smaran.

Earlier, Kishan and Kumar Kushagra had added 220 runs for the fifth wicket. Kushagra also produced an impressive century, scoring 101 off 128 balls for his sixth first-class hundred before falling while attempting to attack a short delivery.

Kishan's innings dominated the day, but his aggressive approach was matched by Kushagra's composed strokeplay. Despite cramps forcing Kishan off the field briefly after reaching 250, he returned late in the innings in an attempt to complete a historic triple-century.

South Zone eventually dismissed East Zone for 708 off the final ball of the day, with T Vijay claiming four wickets for 180 runs.

With three days still remaining, South Zone face a daunting task. They will need to post a huge first-innings total and hope the Chepauk surface begins to offer assistance to the bowlers as the match progresses. East Zone, meanwhile, have put themselves firmly in control and are now well placed to push for their first Duleep Trophy title in 13 years.
