Despite Thursday night’s IPL 2025 match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) in Dharamsala being called off after just 10.1 overs, there were still notable movements in the Orange and Purple Cap standings—particularly among the PBKS openers who impressed during the brief action.
Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh continued their strong form as a destructive opening pair, putting on a 122-run stand before Arya was dismissed for a quickfire 70 off 34 balls. Prabhsimran remained unbeaten on 50 from 28 deliveries when the game was halted and eventually abandoned due to a power outage affecting the stadium’s floodlights. Their efforts were not wasted entirely, as both moved up in the race for the Orange Cap. Prabhsimran rose to sixth place on the leaderboard, while Arya climbed to eighth. Yashasvi Jaiswal of Rajasthan Royals remains between the two at seventh with 473 runs.
The top five in the Orange Cap table remained unchanged, with Suryakumar Yadav (MI) leading at 510 runs, followed closely by B Sai Sudharsan (GT, 509), Shubman Gill (GT, 508), Virat Kohli (RCB, 505), and Jos Buttler (GT, 500).
On the bowling front, there was no movement in the Purple Cap standings after the abandonment. T Natarajan, playing just his second match of the season for DC—both of which have now been washed out or interrupted—claimed the only wicket of the game, removing Arya. His limited appearances have prevented any significant rise in the wicket-takers' list.
The Purple Cap is currently held by Prasidh Krishna of Gujarat Titans with 20 wickets, narrowly edging out CSK’s Noor Ahmad, who also has 20 scalps but lags in economy rate (7.65 vs Ahmad’s 8.02) and average (16.45 vs 17.25). RCB’s Josh Hazlewood and MI’s Trent Boult are tied on 18 wickets, with Hazlewood ahead on efficiency. Varun Chakravarthy of KKR moved into fifth place with 17 wickets after a strong performance—2 for 18—against CSK.
While Thursday’s premature ending may not have drastically changed the tables, it provided just enough action for key players to strengthen their claims in the Orange and Purple Cap races.
