Indonesia Unveil Squad for Historic Women’s Asia Cup Debut

Indonesia have announced their squad for their first-ever appearance in the Women’s Asia Cup, marking a significant milestone for the country’s women’s cricket team.

Indonesia secured qualification through the ACC Women’s Premier Cup in June, where they impressed despite having only 11 players available throughout the tournament. They reached the semi-finals before losing to Thailand and then went down to Hong Kong, China in the third-place playoff.

Captain Nanda Sakarini will once again lead the side and was Indonesia’s leading run-scorer during the qualifying campaign. Dara Maramitha, who featured in the qualification tournament, has been left out of the final squad.

The squad has been strengthened by the inclusion of young spinner Sofia Velic and explosive batter Maria Corazon Wombaki, adding both bowling depth and attacking firepower.

Several players also bring experience from Indonesia’s participation in the ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2023. Wesika Ratna Dewi, Putri Suwandewi and Sang Maypriani were among the standout performers from that campaign, while Desi Wulandari, Lie Qiao and Ni Kadek Ariani also featured in the U19 World Cup squad.

Indonesia will begin their historic Asia Cup campaign against Bangladesh on August 31, followed by matches against Sri Lanka on September 2 and the United Arab Emirates on September 4.
