India-Bangladesh Series Not Off Yet as BCB, BCCI Seek New Dates

The proposed India-Bangladesh white-ball series may still go ahead, with Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Tamim Iqbal revealing that both boards are actively discussing alternative dates.

India were originally scheduled to play three ODIs and three T20Is in Bangladesh in August and September. However, the series is not expected to take place in the originally planned window, amid the current political situation between the two neighbouring countries.

Despite speculation that the series could be cancelled altogether, Tamim insisted that no final decision has been taken.

“That it won't happen hasn't been decided yet,” Tamim said, according to Not Out Noman.

He added that both the BCB and BCCI remain committed to finding a way to stage the series and are examining possible windows in their busy international calendars.

“Both boards are very sincere that this thing happens. Both BCCI and BCB are looking at windows and figuring out what can be done,” Tamim said.

The Bangladesh chief acknowledged that scheduling the six-match series will be challenging, with Bangladesh and India both having packed calendars. Bangladesh also have three other series during the period being considered, while India's schedule is similarly congested.

However, Tamim said discussions between the two boards remain ongoing and that the intentions on both sides are positive.

BCB to Reveal More Names in Corruption Probe

Tamim also disclosed that the BCB is preparing to announce the names of another four or five individuals allegedly linked to corruption-related activities surrounding the Bangladesh Premier League.

The board has already issued a statement naming several individuals who were charged under the ICC's anti-corruption code. According to Tamim, more names will be released once the legal process allows it.

“There is an issue with integrity. The lawyer is handling it now. When we get the green signal from the lawyer, we will reveal it through a press release,” he said.

Tamim Regrets Bangladesh's T20 World Cup Decision

The BCB president also reflected on Bangladesh's decision to withdraw from the 2026 T20 World Cup, admitting that he believes the board could have handled negotiations more effectively.

Bangladesh opted out of the tournament after Mustafizur Rahman was released by Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the 2026 IPL, with the board citing security concerns.

Tamim said the incident had understandably caused widespread disappointment in Bangladesh but felt the country should still have found a way to participate in the World Cup.

He also suggested that several details from the negotiations have not been made public and could surprise people if revealed.

According to Tamim, the experience reinforced his belief that sporting matters should, wherever possible, be kept separate from political disputes.

He pointed to Iran's participation in a sporting event in the United States despite the ongoing conflict between the two countries as an example of how sport can sometimes continue despite political tensions.

Tamim maintained that Bangladesh should have played the World Cup and believes the situation could have been handled with greater care and diplomacy.
