India Set to Host 2025 Women's ODI World Cup with Neutral Venue for Pakistan Matches

The 2025 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup will mark a significant moment in international women’s cricket as India prepares to host the prestigious event for the first time since 2013. Scheduled from September 30 to November 2, the tournament will feature matches across four Indian cities—Bengaluru, Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, and Indore—while Colombo in Sri Lanka will serve as a neutral venue for all of Pakistan’s group-stage fixtures. This hybrid hosting model, agreed upon by the BCCI and PCB, comes in response to ongoing political tensions between India and Pakistan, with India having already decided not to travel to Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy. As a reciprocal measure, the PCB opted against sending its women’s team to India, prompting the ICC to designate Colombo as a neutral venue. The tournament will follow a round-robin format where all eight qualified teams play each other once, with the top four advancing to the semi-finals. The final, depending on whether India or Pakistan qualify, will be held in either Bengaluru or Colombo. The opening match involving hosts India will be played in Bengaluru, which will also host the second semi-final on October 30. The first semi-final will take place in either Guwahati or Colombo, again depending on Pakistan's progress. India, Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka qualified directly, while Pakistan and Bangladesh earned their spots through qualifiers held earlier this year in Lahore. Notably, the West Indies failed to qualify after falling behind Bangladesh on net run rate. New Chandigarh, initially in contention to host matches including the final, was dropped due to concerns about hosting marquee fixtures at a venue with no prior international match history. The BCCI instead opted for Bengaluru, known for its reliable infrastructure and strong spectator turnout. In total, the tournament will feature 31 matches, promising a month-long showcase of elite women’s cricket in the subcontinent.
