India chase a 2-0 lead in Wellington as Conway's concussion thins New Zealand's batting

India go to Wellington a win clear in the five-match series, while New Zealand must rebuild a batting order now missing three of its first-choice names
The second one-day international of India's tour of New Zealand begins at Sky Stadium on Saturday, with Shubman Gill's side 1-0 up after a rain-shortened win at Eden Park on Wednesday.
New Zealand's preparation has been disrupted again. Devon Conway has been ruled out of the remaining four matches of the series after being diagnosed with concussion, and Nick Kelly has been called into the squad in his place.
Mitchell Santner's side were already without Rachin Ravindra and Mark Chapman, and will go into Saturday needing a win to stop the series getting away from them early.
How the opener was won
Asked to bat first in Auckland, New Zealand were bowled out for 185 in 40.2 overs, losing wickets steadily and never building a partnership of any length.
Arshdeep Singh took four wickets and Gurnoor Brar three. Anshul Kamboj returned 2-22 and was named player of the match.
Tim Seifert, who moved up the order in Conway's absence, top-scored with 38 from 43 balls. Glenn Phillips made 30, and Blair Tickner hit 34 from 23 to lift the tail.
Rain then cut India's reply to a revised target of 143 from 32 overs. Virat Kohli made 74 from 51 balls and Gill 37 from 56, and India got home in 22.4 overs with five wickets down. Rohit Sharma fell for a duck, and Jacob Duffy was the pick of the home bowlers with three wickets.
Conway ruled out for the rest of the series
Conway was hurt in a training session in Auckland before the opener, colliding with team-mate Matt Henry as the pair went for the same catch.
He was taken to hospital for further assessment, where a concussion was confirmed. He had already missed the first match, and will now play no part in the remaining four.
The 35-year-old's next target is the two-match World Test Championship series against India, which begins in Wellington on 19 November.
Kelly called in and Henry cleared
Kelly had originally been selected only for the fourth and fifth one-day internationals. He now joins the squad in Wellington for the second.
There was better news on Henry, who has been cleared of concussion and is available for selection on Saturday.
The seamer had already missed the last three Twenty20 internationals of the tour with a low-grade tear in his right quadriceps, so Saturday would mark his first appearance of the one-day series.
India's attack without Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the one-day leg of the tour, leaving Gill to build an attack around Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav and Arshdeep Singh.
On the evidence of Auckland, the depth is holding. Kamboj and Brar, neither of them long established in the side, took five of the ten wickets between them.
New Zealand's batting will need to handle that attack for longer than it managed at Eden Park, where the innings lasted fewer than 41 overs.
Weather and what is at stake
Rain shaped the first match and is a live concern again in Wellington, where previews of Saturday's game have flagged unsettled conditions.
Both sides are also using the series to settle combinations with the 2027 ODI World Cup a little under a year away, which gives the remaining four matches a weight beyond the result.
The toss had not been made at the time of writing.
The second one-day international starts at 7.30am IST on Saturday at Sky Stadium in Wellington, with three further matches to follow.
