ICC reviews Bangladesh cricket board governance amid election controversy

An ICC delegation visiting Dhaka this week is set to submit a detailed report on governance and electoral concerns surrounding the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), following recent political and administrative upheaval within the organisation.
According to an ICC media release, directors Dr Mohammed Moosajee and Tavengwa Mukuhlani met multiple stakeholders to “review developments linked to the BCB” during their visit.
The review comes after the Bangladesh government dissolved the BCB board led by Aminul Islam in April over allegations of vote-rigging, bias and coercion in the October 2025 elections. An interim ad-hoc committee was subsequently appointed for a three-month period, with former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal named as BCB president.
The ICC delegation arrived in Dhaka on June 1 and held discussions with members of the ad-hoc committee, election commission officials and former BCB directors ahead of the scheduled June 7 elections.
Reports also suggest that members of the previous board met the ICC representatives separately, with Aminul Islam urging the governing body not to recognise any election conducted under the current ad-hoc administration. Aminul continues to maintain that he remains the legitimate BCB president.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s High Court dismissed a writ petition challenging the legality of the upcoming election process and voter list, stating that the petition had not been properly presented before the court.
The ICC delegation’s findings are expected to play a significant role in determining the global body’s stance on the ongoing governance situation within Bangladesh cricket.
