"Essex Secure Mitchell Killeen in Two‑Year Deal from Durham

Essex have confirmed the signing of 20-year-old all-rounder Mitchell Killeen on a two-year contract, starting after the conclusion of the 2025 season.

Killeen, a right-arm medium-pace bowler and right-handed batter, made his List A debut for Durham in 2022 and broke into first-class cricket earlier this year. He made an impressive County Championship debut, taking 5 for 36. A graduate of the Durham Academy, he has also represented England Under-19s and the Professional County Club XI.

In 2024, he was named Durham’s Second XI Player of the Year after scoring over 400 runs—including an unbeaten century—and taking 18 wickets across formats.

Killeen said he was excited to join an Essex side with a strong squad and recent success. He added that once contacted by head coach Chris Silverwood, he was eager to be part of the project at Chelmsford and is determined to work hard for a regular first-team place.

Essex CEO Dan Feist welcomed Killeen, praising his potential and noting that his addition would bring valuable depth to the squad’s bowling attack while giving him the platform to develop further.
