The Dubai Capitals, reigning champions of the ILT20, have been confirmed as the fifth and final team for the second edition of the Guyana Global Super League (GSL), scheduled to run from July 10 to 18 at the Providence Stadium. Framed as a modern-day revival of the long-defunct Champions League T20 (CLT20), the GSL is shaping up to become a high-profile, invite-only tournament featuring top domestic T20 sides from around the world. The upcoming edition will feature a strong international lineup, including defending GSL champions Rangpur Riders from Bangladesh, Hobart Hurricanes (Big Bash League champions), Central Stags (Super Smash winners), and hosts Guyana Amazon Warriors. With a single round-robin format followed by a final, the GSL aims to deliver elite competition while boosting Guyana’s global sporting stature—fueled in part by its surging oil-rich economy and strong political backing. The addition of Dubai Capitals—owned by Indian conglomerate GMR Group—further elevates the tournament’s prestige, especially after their landmark ILT20 victory earlier this year. GSL chairman Clive Lloyd welcomed the team’s inclusion, noting it would enhance the spectacle and quality of cricket, while GMR Sports CEO Satyam Trivedi highlighted the league’s global value and potential for meaningful cricketing connections. Inspired by the spirit of the CLT20, which last took place in 2014, the GSL is emerging as a bold attempt to rekindle inter-league rivalries and establish a marquee event on the international T20 calendar.
