Delhi Capitals Co-owner Parth Jindal Requests IPL to Shift Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Capitals Match Amid Rain Concerns

With heavy rain forecasts threatening the IPL 2025 clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) in Mumbai on Wednesday, DC co-owner Parth Jindal has formally requested the IPL to relocate the crucial fixture to another city. The match has massive playoff implications: a MI win secures their place in the playoffs, while a DC victory keeps both teams in contention heading into their final league games against Punjab Kings (PBKS). However, persistent rain warnings and a yellow alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department for Mumbai over the next four days have raised fears that the match could be washed out, forcing both teams to share points—potentially complicating the playoff picture.

Jindal’s plea comes after the IPL recently moved the May 23 Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Sunrisers Hyderabad game to Lucknow due to adverse weather in Bengaluru. In an email obtained by ESPNcricinfo, Jindal emphasized the need for consistency, noting that the forecast for Mumbai had been clear for nearly a week. “The forecast in Mumbai is for heavy rains and there is a strong likelihood that the game will be washed out,” he wrote. “Just as the game between RCB vs SRH has been moved out of Bengaluru in the quest for consistency and in the interest of the league, it is my request that tomorrow’s game also be moved to a different location.”

The request follows further complaints from Kolkata Knight Riders, whose CEO Venky Mysore recently expressed frustration over rain rules, highlighting that the new additional 120 minutes allowance to complete rain-interrupted matches was not applied earlier—costing KKR a chance to make the playoffs when their match against RCB was abandoned.

The IPL’s response on the Mumbai fixture is awaited, with fans and teams eager for clarity amid mounting weather disruptions that could shape the final phases of the tournament.
