Devon Conway and New Zealand’s fast bowlers delivered a commanding performance to level the five-match T20I series 1-1 against South Africa with a 68-run win in Hamilton.

Asked to bat first on a surface expected to favour batters, New Zealand posted a competitive 175 for 6, thanks largely to Conway’s composed 60. Anchoring the innings, Conway combined fluent strokeplay with smart strike rotation, ensuring stability even as wickets fell at regular intervals. His 48-run opening stand set the tone, though South Africa managed to prevent bigger partnerships through the middle overs.

Despite that, New Zealand found late momentum. Josh Clarkson’s explosive unbeaten 26 off just nine balls proved decisive, especially in the final overs where South Africa’s bowling plans unraveled. The visitors conceded 42 runs in the last three overs, with their spinners, particularly Keshav Maharaj, proving expensive.

In reply, South Africa started steadily but quickly lost control after a strong Powerplay. The turning point came when New Zealand struck three quick wickets, reducing the visitors to 31 for 3. From there, the innings never recovered.

Ben Sears and Lockie Ferguson led a relentless pace attack, sharing six wickets between them. Sears’ sharp short-ball tactics dismantled the lower order, while Ferguson’s pace ensured constant pressure. South Africa were eventually bowled out for 107 in just 16 overs, with George Linde’s 33 the only notable resistance.

Mitchell Santner also played a key role, maintaining control through the middle overs and picking up crucial breakthroughs.
