While he narrowly missed out on playing the Sheffield Shield final, his time with Gloucestershire—where he struck three centuries—has left him feeling better prepared than ever to tackle English conditions.

"Having just batting to focus on helps massively," Green explained. “There’s less to juggle physically and mentally, and it’s shown in my performances. But bowling will always be a part of who I am as a cricketer.”

Green’s transformation as a batsman is timely. With Steven Smith reclaiming his spot at No. 4, Green is likely to shift to No. 3—a position he has occupied only once in first-class cricket. Yet, he’s unfazed, noting that most players, including himself, batted in the top three through junior levels. "Absolutely no issues batting at three when you've done it your whole life," he said.

His recent 174* against New Zealand in Wellington underscored his ability to dominate even in difficult conditions, and his Gloucestershire form suggests he has adapted his game well to English pitches. Guidance from teammates and local players has helped him hone his approach, particularly understanding when to defend straight and when to score square—skills vital in contrasting conditions to Australia.

Green’s ascension at the top may temporarily sideline Beau Webster, who has slotted in at No. 6 and offers a similar allround package. However, both players are optimistic about coexisting in the XI. Webster acknowledged Green’s generational talent and remains focused on making himself indispensable with consistent performances.

Coaches like Beau Casson and Michael Di Venuto believe Green’s evolving game and mental clarity make him a long-term asset. "He’s got a lovely technique and he’s now showing how he can express himself," Casson said. “He’s versatile and steady—qualities that will make him a fixture in Australia’s top six for years.”

As the WTC final looms, Green’s readiness—both as a top-order batter and future allrounder—adds a powerful dimension to Australia's already formidable lineup. The question is no longer whether he belongs, but just how high his ceiling might be.
