Jos Buttler remains confident that a return to top form is just around the corner, despite a modest start to IPL 2026 with Gujarat Titans.
By his own lofty standards, Buttler has endured a quiet run in T20 cricket this year. His returns for England have dipped, and in the IPL he has managed starts without converting them into match-defining knocks. Scores of 38 and 26 suggest rhythm without dominance, something he is keen to change.
“I feel good actually,” Buttler said, emphasising that his focus remains on trusting his game and experience. Rather than overthinking recent struggles, he is concentrating on staying balanced at the crease and letting his natural instincts take over.
His team-mate B Sai Sudharsan echoed that belief, stating that Buttler looks the closest among GT’s batters to producing a big innings. Their partnership has already shown promise, and GT will be hoping it translates into a match-winning performance soon.
Buttler also highlighted the importance of mental clarity, saying he is trying to avoid dwelling on past failures or over analysing specific matchups. “Every day you start on zero,” he said, underlining his reset approach heading into each game.
Another positive for Buttler has been working with batting coach Matthew Hayden. Drawing from Hayden’s vast experience, Buttler has been focusing on simplifying his game and maintaining a strong mental approach.
With Shubman Gill set to return to the XI, GT’s top order will have added stability. As they search for their first win of the season, Buttler’s form could prove decisive.
For now, the signs are encouraging and Buttler believes it is only a matter of time before he delivers the kind of innings he is known for.
