BCCI gives IPL franchises until November 15 to submit their retention lists

The IPL's ten franchises have until November 15 to decide which players they keep and which they send back to the auction pool

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has fixed November 15 as the date by which every Indian Premier League franchise must submit its retained and released lists for the 2027 season, about a month before the auction that will restock the squads.

The date reached the teams through the league's own channels rather than a public announcement, and it is the first hard deadline in a 2027 calendar that has otherwise been assembled from reports rather than from the board itself.

What follows is a mini-auction, reported for December 16 in Goa, and the last of its kind before the mega auction that will break the squads up completely ahead of 2028.

What the lists settle

A mini-auction is a trimming exercise rather than a rebuild. Franchises carry their squads into it largely intact, and the submission due on November 15 is mostly a question of who is let go.

Every player released joins the pool the teams then bid for, which makes the deadline the point at which the auction's shape is decided. Until the lists are in, nobody knows which names are available.

Once the submissions are made, franchises receive the registered player pool and begin shortlisting targets, with the final list and the auction set order expected in the week before the event.

An auction in Goa that is not official yet

The sale is reported for December 16 at the ITC Grand Goa, with a briefing for the franchises the day before. The BCCI has issued no formal public announcement, and the teams were said to be waiting on written confirmation.

Board secretary Devajit Saikia has confirmed the broad plan, telling news agency ANI that the board was "going to host it in Goa in the month of December". The precise date and hotel come from reports of the board's internal message to the franchises rather than from a release.

Goa also brings the auction home. The last three editions were staged abroad, in Saudi Arabia, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and the December event returns the sale to Indian soil.

A trade window that has barely moved

The window opened a month after the IPL 2026 final and has produced only two deals, leaving most of the off-season business to the auction floor.

It closes on December 9, a week before the auction, and reopens a month out from the 2027 season. Any further swap therefore has to be agreed in the same stretch as the retention lists.

The two deals already done

The first came in June, when Rishabh Pant moved from Lucknow Super Giants to Delhi Capitals at a revised fee of ₹15 crore, with Kuldeep Yadav going the other way for ₹13.5 crore.

The second, in October, took T Natarajan back to Sunrisers Hyderabad for ₹5 crore, well down on the ₹10.75 crore Delhi Capitals had paid for him at the 2025 auction, while Zeeshan Ansari joined Delhi at his existing ₹40 lakh.

Both were straight swaps, with a player moving in each direction.

A season still without dates

The 2027 season itself remains unscheduled. A window of March 14 to May 30 was earmarked earlier but has not been confirmed, and Saikia indicated after the board's September annual general meeting that the season could begin towards the end of March.

The auction date carries one clash already. December 16 is also the day of the second one-day international between India and Sri Lanka in Bengaluru.

The lists filed on November 15 will be the first real indication of how much any of the ten squads intends to change.
