Amelia Kerr delivered a sensational all-round performance to power New Zealand to a dominant 200-run victory over Zimbabwe in the third women’s ODI in Dunedin, sealing a 3-0 series sweep.
Leading the side in her first assignment as New Zealand’s white-ball captain, Kerr first anchored the innings with a composed 80 from 106 balls as the hosts posted a formidable total of 303 for 6 after electing to bat. Her knock, which included ten boundaries, provided the backbone of the innings before Maddy Green accelerated with a brilliant 94 off 73 deliveries, striking 12 fours. Brooke Halliday added a valuable 40, while Isabella Gaze finished unbeaten on 18 to push New Zealand past the 300 mark.
Zimbabwe’s bowlers struggled to contain the scoring, although Christabel Chatonzwa impressed with figures of 2 for 48. Tendai Makusha, Adel Zimunu and Precious Marange picked up one wicket each.
The chase never gained momentum for Zimbabwe, who were bowled out for just 103 in 27.1 overs. Loreen Tshuma top-scored with 34 but lacked support as wickets fell steadily under sustained pressure from the New Zealand attack. Rosemary Mair claimed 2 for 16 and Nensi Patel added 1 for 16 to keep the visitors on the back foot.
Kerr then returned to dominate with the ball, finishing with remarkable figures of 5 for 22 in 3.1 overs. She also claimed a hat-trick in the 24th over, dismissing Audrey Mazvishaya, Tendai Makusha and Nomvelo Sibanda in successive deliveries to wrap up the innings.
Her outstanding display earned her both Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards. Kerr finished the series with 140 runs and 16 wickets, underlining her impact in her first series as captain.
New Zealand will now host South Africa in a home series featuring five T20Is and three ODIs, beginning on March 15.
