Zimbabwe Back Bowling Variety to Rattle India in Chennai

Zimbabwe believe the depth and variety in their bowling attack could help them spring a surprise against India when the sides meet in Chennai in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

Allrounder Ryan Burl said Zimbabwe’s mix of tall fast bowlers and multiple spin options gives them flexibility as they prepare for a crucial Super Eight clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

With Richard Ngarava back from injury, Zimbabwe can deploy three tall seamers, spearheaded by the 6ft 9in Blessing Muzarabani. Muzarabani has been among the standout quicks of the tournament, claiming 11 wickets in four innings, using his steep bounce and high release point to unsettle batters.

“I have to give a lot more credit to Blessing than he has received,” Burl said. “He’s been out for four to six months prior to this tournament. The success he’s had has been amazing.”

Zimbabwe also possess a full range of spin options. Captain Sikandar Raza can offer offspin and variations including the carrom ball, while Graeme Cremer provides legspin and Wellington Masakadza left arm orthodox. Team management are weighing combinations carefully on what is expected to be a black soil surface.

Raza, who took a blow to his finger in the previous match, has been declared fit and trained without discomfort on the eve of the game.

Burl said Zimbabwe’s recent exposure to top level opposition has strengthened their belief. “It’s a combination of everything put together good players good processes and now reaping the rewards,” he said.

Against a formidable Indian line up, Zimbabwe are banking on unpredictability and match ups to keep their semi final hopes alive.
