Women's ODI World Cup 2025 Set for September Start as India Host for First Time Since 2013

The 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup is set to begin on September 30, with hosts India taking on Sri Lanka in the tournament opener at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. In a highly anticipated fixture, India will face arch-rivals Pakistan on October 5 at the neutral venue of R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, as part of the hybrid hosting arrangement between the BCCI and PCB due to ongoing political tensions between the two nations. Defending champions Australia begin their campaign against New Zealand on October 1 at Indore’s Holkar Stadium, followed by marquee clashes including their showdown with England on October 22. Pakistan will play all their league matches in Colombo, facing Bangladesh, England, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka, while England's fixtures include matches against South Africa (October 3, Bengaluru), Sri Lanka (October 11, Guwahati), and New Zealand (October 26, Guwahati). Bangladesh will split their matches between Colombo and Visakhapatnam, while South Africa face key tests against New Zealand and Australia in Indore. In total, 28 league matches will be played across Bengaluru, Indore, Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, and Colombo, followed by two semi-finals on October 29 and 30, with venues depending partly on Pakistan's progression, and the final set for November 2. The tournament will follow the round-robin format used in 2022, with each of the eight teams facing one another before the top four advance to the knockouts. Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, India (as hosts), and qualifiers Pakistan and Bangladesh make up the eight-team field, with West Indies missing out after narrowly losing out to Bangladesh on net run-rate in the qualifiers. The 2025 edition marks the first time India has hosted the Women’s ODI World Cup since 2013, with high hopes for a successful tournament both on and off the field.
