Titans optimistic about Rabada's comeback and Rashid regaining form

Bowling Remains GT's Backbone Amid Rashid’s Dip and Rabada’s Absence

Gujarat Titans (GT) have traditionally relied on their bowling prowess, and it's once again been central to their campaign, helping them notch up four wins in six games in the IPL 2025. But not everything has gone to plan.

Rashid Khan, long considered one of the elite performers in T20 cricket, has hit a rare rough patch. Across six matches, he has bowled 22 overs, taking just four wickets while conceding runs at an economy rate of 9.77 and averaging 53.75.

GT assistant coach Aashish Kapoor, who has been working closely with Rashid, remains confident that the leg-spinner is on the verge of a turnaround.

"Over time, whether you're a batter or bowler, you can fall into certain bad habits, especially when you've been performing consistently," Kapoor explained. "Last year, Rashid was dealing with a back injury that eventually needed surgery. Playing through pain often forces changes to your action to reduce discomfort.

"This season, after the first couple of games, we identified that his front arm was staying closed off—it should be facing the batsman. He’s been working on correcting that, and in the last few matches, he's started hitting better lengths. Once he regains his confidence and gets a few wickets, I believe we’ll see the Rashid Khan we all know."

GT are set to play Delhi Capitals (DC) in Ahmedabad on Saturday. However, they’re still without another key bowling figure—Kagiso Rabada, who returned to South Africa to deal with personal matters.

“We’re waiting for him,” Kapoor said. “He might return—he’s gone to attend to some family issues. If things get sorted in time, he’ll be back. But as of now, we don’t have a timeline.”

Rabada featured in two games this season, returning figures of 1 for 41 and 1 for 42.
