Thailand needed 11.3 overs to bowl Mongolia out for 13, the fifth-lowest total in men's T20 international history, and won by 183 runs at Bayuemas Oval
Thailand won the toss in Kuala Lumpur on Friday, chose to bat and reached 196 for 2 from their 20 overs. Mongolia were then dismissed for 13 in reply, losing the 10th match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Sub Regional Asia Qualifier A by 183 runs.
No Mongolia batter reached double figures and eight of the eleven failed to score. Ten of the side's runs came from the bat, and the other three were wides.
Only four lower totals have been recorded in men's T20 internationals, and Mongolia are now responsible for three of the five lowest. Their 10 against Singapore at Bangi and 12 against Japan at Sano, both in 2024, sit either side of Friday's score.
Opener Uugan-Erdene Batjargal faced 12 balls without scoring before he was bowled. His partner Gandemberel Ganbold made the innings' highest score, 5 from 11 balls, and was also bowled.
Wicketkeeper Bat-yalalt Namsrai occupied 16 balls for 3, the longest stay of the innings, before he was caught. Captain Luwsanzundui Erdenebulgan was caught for a duck from three balls.
Bayanbuu Jargaltuya's 2 from 8 balls was the only other score. Every Mongolia wicket came from a catch or was bowled, and the innings was over inside 69 balls at a run rate of 1.13.
Kamron Senamontree took 4-7 from his four overs, two of which were maidens, accounting for Batjargal, Namsrai, Sodbileg Gantulga and the captain.
Phanuphong Thongsa was more economical still, returning 4-2 from two overs. He bowled four of the last six batters and took the player-of-the-match award.
Thanadon Buri opened the bowling and finished with 1-1 from three overs, two of them maidens. Phatummakan Donkaew closed the innings with 1-1 from 1.3 overs.
Thailand used five bowlers and conceded 13 runs between them, three of those in wides. Chanchai Pengkumta, who bowled a single over for two runs, was the only one of the five not to take a wicket.
Akshaykumar Yadav held Thailand's innings together with 93 not out from 65 balls, striking six fours and four sixes and ending seven runs short of a century.
Pattarapol Jirapatananukul made 45 from 32 balls with five fours and a six before he was caught by Temuulen Amarmend off the bowling of Turmunkh Tumursukh.
Austin Lazarus finished unbeaten on 36 from 22 balls to push Thailand towards 200. Mongolia used eight bowlers and took two wickets between them, and the total included 21 extras.
ESPNcricinfo's list of the lowest men's T20 international totals is headed by Ivory Coast's 7 against Nigeria at Abuja in November 2024, followed by Mongolia's 10 and the Isle of Man's 10 against Spain at Cartagena in February 2023.
Mongolia's 12 against Japan is the fourth entry on that list, which means Friday's 13 displaces their own 17 against Hong Kong as their third-lowest return.
That 17 came at Kuala Lumpur in August 2024, in the previous edition of this qualifier, during a campaign in which they were also dismissed for 10 by Singapore.
The match was the 10th of the sub-regional event, which sits at the foot of the ICC's T20 World Cup qualification pathway and is being played at grounds in and around Kuala Lumpur.
In the other game on Friday, Qatar beat Myanmar by nine wickets at the Selangor Turf Club, Myanmar having been held to 55 for 9.
Scorecard: Thailand 196 for 2 (Akshaykumar Yadav 93 not out, Pattarapol Jirapatananukul 45) beat Mongolia 13 (Kamron Senamontree 4-7, Phanuphong Thongsa 4-2) by 183 runs at Bayuemas Oval, Kuala Lumpur.
