Set 209 for victory, West Indies were 116 for 5 in the 30th over when the incident occurred. Dottin attempted a sweep off Chamari Athapaththu, the ball drifting down the leg side and called wide. It ricocheted off wicketkeeper Kaushini Nuthyangana’s pads and ballooned back toward Dottin, who instinctively tapped it away with her bat before catching it. After a brief consultation between the on-field umpires, Dottin was adjudged to have obstructed the field, leaving West Indies six down and in trouble.
The visitors slipped further to 146 for 8 before Jannillea Glasgow mounted a stirring fightback. Registering her second consecutive half-century, Glasgow added 45 for the ninth wicket with Afy Fletcher to keep the chase alive. However, her dismissal — sharply caught on the rebound at cover by Kavisha Dilhari — ended West Indies’ hopes at 194.
Earlier, Vishmi Gunaratne anchored Sri Lanka’s innings with a composed 58, supported by steady top-order partnerships that carried them to 166 for 4 in the 36th over. A late collapse saw the final six wickets fall for 42 runs, with Karishma Ramharack claiming 3 for 26 to keep West Indies in the contest.
But Sri Lanka’s sharp fielding — highlighted by Hasini Perera’s catch at slip and Nilakshika Silva’s effort at long-off — matched their discipline with the ball. In a tight contest decided by fine margins, Dottin’s unusual dismissal proved decisive as Sri Lanka secured the series.
