Despite back-to-back defeats in IPL 2025, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) head coach Daniel Vettori has made it clear that the team will not deviate from their attacking style of play. After a record-breaking 286-run performance in their opening game, SRH have faltered with the bat in their next two outings, but Vettori remains committed to their fearless approach.

“There are no discussions about toning it down,” Vettori said after their loss to Delhi Capitals. “We definitely want to play an aggressive brand. That’s how our top three bat. They set the tone for the rest.”

Against Delhi, SRH were reeling at 37 for 4 before a recovery effort from youngster Aniket Verma and Heinrich Klaasen took them to 163, which still fell short. Vettori pointed out that their high-risk style comes with occasional failures.

“Abhishek was unlucky, and Ishan and Travis might have cleared the ropes with those shots on another day,” he said. “We understand that playing this way may lead to some failures, but we back ourselves to perform more often than not.”

Vettori downplayed concerns over consecutive losses, calling it a natural part of the tournament, especially in its early stages.

“It’s rare for any team to go through an IPL season without losing two games in a row,” he said. “Teams are still figuring out combinations after the big auction. Every game is a challenge — the opposition is strong and well-prepared. We just need to keep showing up and playing our brand of cricket consistently.”

The coach also heaped praise on legspinner Zeeshan Ansari, who impressed in his first T20 appearance in over six years, taking three crucial wickets.

“He was fantastic,” Vettori said. “From the moment he joined, we knew he was a talent. His ability to challenge batters and provide us with a domestic leg-spin option is a big positive going forward.”
