Sooryavanshi Storms to Orange Cap Lead as Archer Closes In on Purple Cap

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi produced another jaw-dropping performance in the IPL 2026 Eliminator, blasting Rajasthan Royals into Qualifier 2 while surging to the top of the Orange Cap standings.

The teenage sensation smashed a breathtaking 97 off just 29 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad, falling agonisingly short of both a century and Chris Gayle’s record for the fastest IPL hundred. However, Sooryavanshi still managed to break Gayle’s long-standing record for the most sixes in a single IPL season after hammering 12 more maximums during the innings.

His extraordinary knock lifted him to 680 runs for the tournament, moving him comfortably ahead of B Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill of Gujarat Titans in the race for the Orange Cap.

While Sooryavanshi dominated headlines, teammate Dhruv Jurel also played a major supporting role with a rapid 50 off 21 balls, taking his season tally beyond 500 runs.

SRH’s batting stars finished their campaigns strongly despite elimination. Heinrich Klaasen ended the season among the leading run-scorers with 624 runs, while Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma also crossed major milestones during another explosive batting season for Hyderabad.

The Purple Cap race also tightened significantly thanks to Jofra Archer. Although expensive against SRH, Archer picked up three crucial wickets for the second consecutive match, dismissing SRH’s dangerous top-order trio inside the powerplay.

Archer now has 24 wickets for the season and sits just behind Purple Cap leaders Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Kagiso Rabada, who both remain on 26 wickets with additional playoff matches still to play.

As IPL 2026 approaches its final stages, the battle for both individual awards and the championship title continues to intensify, led by some of the most explosive batting and aggressive fast bowling the tournament has seen in recent years.
