Harare, July 22: India's teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi says he remains confident despite experiencing "several ups and downs" over the past four months as he prepares for the upcoming T20I series against Zimbabwe.
The 15-year-old enjoyed a meteoric rise after a standout IPL season, earning selection for India's T20I tours of Ireland and England. Although he did not feature in the Ireland series, he made his international debut in Manchester against England, becoming the youngest player to represent India in international cricket.
Sooryavanshi played the next three T20Is but managed only modest scores before being left out of the final match as Sanju Samson returned to the playing XI. India eventually lost the series 4-0.
Reflecting on his rapid journey, Sooryavanshi admitted that the transition has not been without challenges but insisted his belief remains unchanged."Yes, there have been several ups and downs in the last four months. It's part of cricket and it will keep happening, but I have to follow the process and give my 100% for the team."
The youngster credited the coaching staff for helping him navigate the difficult phase."Whatever I need in terms of guidance and practice, the coaches are making it available. I'm feeling very good, and there is confidence as well."
The Zimbabwe tour brings Sooryavanshi back to a venue that holds special significance. Earlier this year, he produced one of the most memorable innings in Under-19 World Cup history, blasting 175 off just 80 balls against England in the final at Harare to help India lift the title.
Calling the ground "very special," he said returning there in senior international colours is an emotional moment."Just four months back, we played the Under-19 World Cup final here and won. To represent India on the same ground is a very special feeling."
Having already enjoyed success in Harare, Sooryavanshi hopes his knowledge of the conditions will help him make a stronger impact this time."I understand the pitches and conditions here from the Under-19 World Cup. I'll try to use those learnings, back the preparation I've done, trust my game, and contribute as much as I can for the team."
India begin their T20I series against Zimbabwe on Thursday, with Sooryavanshi aiming to convert his promise into consistent performances at the senior international level.
