Shree Charani sets an all-time rating record in the ICC women’s T20I bowling rankings

India left-arm spinner Shree Charani has reached 817 rating points, the highest any bowler has ever held in the ICC Women’s T20I Bowling Rankings

The 22-year-old moved to 817 points in the weekly rankings update released on Tuesday, clearing a mark that had stood for almost eight years. Australia seamer Megan Schutt had held the record at 806 since November 2018.

Charani also keeps the number one place among T20I bowlers. The update took in the closing day of the women’s competition at the Asian Games in Japan, where her two for 13 in the gold-medal match against Sri Lanka took her past Schutt.

India posted 216 for three in that final on 22 September, a Games record total, and won by 147 runs to keep the title they won in 2023.

A month that rewrote the list

Charani has been the central bowler in two Indian title runs inside a fortnight. In the Women’s Asia Cup final in Dubai on 13 September she took 4-20 as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 111 chasing 184, and India won by 72 runs for a record-extending eighth Asia Cup title.

She finished that tournament with 12 wickets, second only to Deepti Sharma’s 14.

At the Asian Games she went further, returning career-best figures of 4-10 against hosts Japan before the two-wicket spell in the final.

The mark Schutt set in 2018

Schutt reached 806 points in November 2018, and no bowler in the women’s game had come within reach of it since. Charani is now 11 points clear of that figure.

The gap behind her is wider still. Deepti Sharma is second on 754 points after three wickets in the Asian Games final, and England’s Sophie Ecclestone is third on 723.

Charani made her T20I debut only in June 2025, against England, and plays her domestic cricket for Andhra and Delhi Capitals in the Women’s Premier League.

A little over a year later she has taken the record away from a fast bowler who spent a decade at the front of Australia’s attack.

Mandhana returns to the top five

Smriti Mandhana is back among the top five T20I batters, up one place after her 79 from 46 balls in the Asian Games final, an innings of seven sixes and five fours.

Mandhana and Shafali Verma put on 99 for the opening wicket before India accelerated. Beth Mooney remains the top-ranked batter on 785 points.

Richa Ghosh, unbeaten on 49 from 22 balls in the same innings, has climbed three places to 25th.

Others on the move

India seamer Kranti Gaud has gone up four places to 53rd among T20I bowlers. Pakistan left-arm spinner Nashra Sandhu is back inside the top ten, and her team-mate Umm-e-Hani has jumped 58 places to 51st.

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana rose four places to 23rd in the batting list after 45 from 30 balls in the third-place match, which Pakistan won by 31 runs to take bronze.

Bangladesh opener Sharmin Akhter moved up 10 places to 35th after making 46 from 45, and Nahida Akhter advanced two places to 29th among bowlers.

Matthews climbs the ODI list

West Indies captain Hayley Matthews is up three places to fourth among ODI batters on 711 points, after a career-best 182 against Zimbabwe in the ICC Women’s Championship — the highest score made by a West Indies woman.

Zimbabwe captain Modester Mupachikwa advanced 16 places to a career-best 40th with scores of 86 and 38, with that series level at 1-1.

Charani has led the T20I bowling rankings through both of India’s title runs, and at 817 points she now sits 63 clear of the bowler closest to her.
