Sam Curran ruled out for rest of English summer; Will Jacks undergoes appendix surgery

England allrounder Sam Curran has been ruled out for the remainder of the English summer after suffering a groin injury, delaying his potential return to the Test side.

Curran will undergo surgery on Friday, ending his chances of featuring in England's upcoming Test series against Pakistan. The left-arm seam-bowling allrounder had been strongly considered for a Test comeback following Ben Stokes' retirement and was being lined up for the series decider at Edgbaston, starting September 9.

The 28-year-old had been carefully managing his workload after earlier injury concerns, including a groin problem that ruled him out of the IPL. He was due to return to County Championship action for Surrey before potentially rejoining the England Test squad, but the latest setback has now ruled him out for the rest of the domestic season.

Meanwhile, Surrey and England have also been dealt another setback with Will Jacks undergoing a successful appendix operation.

Jacks had been among the options for England's Pakistan Test series but missed out to Dan Lawrence, who has been filling the spinning allrounder's role at No. 6.

England will now monitor Jacks' recovery ahead of their white-ball series against Sri Lanka in September, which begins with three T20Is on September 15, followed by three ODIs.
