Sai Sudharsan surpasses Pooran to claim top spot in Orange Cap standings

It took 32 matches, but there's finally a change at the top of the Orange Cap standings in IPL 2025. Following Gujarat Titans’ emphatic win over Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Monday night, Sai Sudharsan has leapfrogged Nicholas Pooran to become the new run-leader, while Jos Buttler has moved into the third spot.

🟧 Orange Cap Standings

The Orange Cap race has seen plenty of action this season. Virat Kohli briefly led the chart after scoring 59* in the tournament opener for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Then Ishan Kishan took over with a blistering 106* for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Pooran then made his move with a 70-run knock against SRH in Match 7, claiming the top spot — a position he held until Match 39.

That’s when Sai Sudharsan, who had been in second place for most of the season, struck a composed 52 off 36 balls, becoming the first batter to cross the 400-run mark in IPL 2025. His consistent run—74, 63, 49, 5, 82, 56, and 36—has seen him rise steadily.

Pooran now slips to No. 2, with 368 runs, partly due to his recent form dip (scores of 8 and 11). However, he has the chance to reclaim the lead in LSG's next game against Delhi Capitals on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Jos Buttler surged into third place after an unbeaten 41 off 23 balls against KKR, pushing his total to 345 runs. Close behind is his captain, Shubman Gill, who smashed 90 off 55 in the same match to move up to 305 runs, slotting in at No. 7.

🟪 Purple Cap Update

Over on the Purple Cap leaderboard, there’s been less movement but steady dominance. Prasidh Krishna tightened his grip at the top with figures of 2 for 25, taking his wicket tally to 16, four clear of the nearest challengers.

GT’s R Sai Kishore and Mohammed Siraj also made progress, each taking a wicket to join the group tied at 12 wickets, which includes:
