Rishabh Pant Fined for Third Over-Rate Offence as LSG Bow Out of IPL 2025

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant has been fined INR 30 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during his team’s final IPL 2025 league match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Lucknow on Tuesday. This marks Pant’s third over-rate offence of the season, following earlier breaches on April 5 and April 26.

Under the IPL’s updated Code of Conduct for over-rate violations, Pant avoids suspension — a departure from the rules in place until IPL 2024, where a third offence would have resulted in a one-match ban. The revised rules mean Pant only faces a financial penalty, while the rest of the playing XII have each been fined INR 12 lakh or 50% of their match fee, whichever is lower.

Pant had delivered a remarkable individual performance on Tuesday, smashing an unbeaten 118 off 61 balls to lift LSG to 227 for 3, but his efforts were overshadowed as RCB pulled off a stunning chase, winning with eight balls to spare. Virat Kohli's 54 and Jitesh Sharma’s blistering 85 not out ensured RCB secured a place in Qualifier 1, finishing second on the points table with 19 points.

LSG’s season ended in disappointment, finishing seventh out of ten teams, with six wins and 12 points from their 14 league matches. Pant’s over-rate offence adds a sour note to the end of what had been a mixed campaign for the franchise.
