Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have been dealt a significant setback ahead of IPL 2026, with seamer Yash Dayal ruled out for the entire season. The franchise’s director of cricket, Mo Bobat, confirmed the development, stating that the decision was made keeping both the player’s personal situation and the team’s interests in mind.
Bobat revealed that he had spoken to Dayal earlier in the day, and both parties agreed it would be best for him not to join the squad this season. While he refrained from disclosing further details, it is understood that Dayal is currently dealing with a serious personal matter and is also facing legal charges related to sexual assault. Despite his absence, he remains contracted with RCB.
Dayal has not featured in competitive cricket since the IPL 2025 final in June, making his extended absence a major concern for the franchise. His unavailability further compounds RCB’s bowling challenges, especially with Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood also expected to miss the initial part of the tournament due to ongoing injury issues.
RCB management had anticipated this possibility during their auction planning, preparing for a worst-case scenario where Dayal would not be available. However, the reality now leaves their pace attack looking relatively inexperienced.
The team will rely heavily on seasoned swing bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar to lead the attack, supported by a mix of uncapped Indian pacers such as Rasikh Salam, Abhinandan Singh, and Mangesh Yadav. Overseas options include New Zealand’s Jacob Duffy, Sri Lanka’s Nuwan Thushara, and West Indies allrounder Romario Shepherd.
With key absences affecting their bowling depth, RCB will need to quickly regroup and find balance if they hope to mount a serious title challenge this season.
