Rain Threat Looms Over India vs West Indies Fifth T20I as Bengaluru Weather Raises Concerns

Rain Threat Looms Over India vs West Indies Fifth T20I as Bengaluru Weather Raises Concerns

The series-deciding fifth T20I between India and the West Indies in Bengaluru faces a potential weather challenge, with forecasts indicating a significant possibility of rain during the match. With the five-match series level at 2-2, both teams will be eager to secure victory at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium and claim the series.
According to the forecast available on October 17, the chances of rain around the scheduled toss time of 6:30 PM IST range between 49 and 34 per cent. The possibility of rainfall is expected to remain during the opening hours of the match, with the probability increasing to around 40 per cent. By approximately 10 PM IST, the chance of rain is forecast to rise to 78 per cent, raising concerns about possible interruptions or a shortened contest.
The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is known for its effective drainage facilities, which could help ground staff resume play quickly after showers. However, persistent or heavy rainfall could still affect the match and potentially prevent a full contest. The venue is also renowned for its batting-friendly conditions, flat pitch and short boundaries, which often make it difficult for bowlers to contain the opposition.
India will enter the contest looking to address some of their batting concerns after the first four matches produced several high-scoring encounters. Although the team's batting performances have delivered runs, the West Indies have proved competitive and exposed areas that the hosts will need to improve upon in the series decider.
The Bengaluru venue has not hosted an international match since the first Test between India and New Zealand in October 2024, although it has staged IPL fixtures during the intervening period. The relative lack of recent international cricket at the ground could make pitch conditions an important factor in team selection and match strategy.
India could consider strengthening their bowling attack by including wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav and experienced fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Bhuvneshwar was added to the squad as cover after Arshdeep Singh sustained a blow to his bowling shoulder during the fourth T20I in Hyderabad. His participation in the decider will depend on Arshdeep's fitness and the team's assessment closer to the match.
With the series evenly poised, both sides face a crucial evening in Bengaluru. While India will aim to overcome their batting inconsistencies and make the most of home conditions, the West Indies will look to continue their competitive performances. Ultimately, the weather could play a decisive role in determining whether the teams get a full opportunity to settle the series on the field.
