PSL Considers ‘Drauction’ Model Combining Draft and Auction from 2026

The Pakistan Super League is exploring a hybrid player recruitment system — dubbed a “drauction” — that would merge elements of both a draft and an auction from the 2026 season onward. The concept is aimed at modernising squad-building while preserving the league’s competitive balance.

Under the proposed model, franchises would retain a draft-style framework for core player allocations, while introducing auction elements for select player pools, potentially including marquee overseas names. This approach is being viewed as a way to increase strategic flexibility, commercial value, and fan engagement without fully abandoning the draft system that has underpinned the PSL since its inception.

League officials believe a drauction could offer the best of both worlds: cost control and parity through the draft, alongside the excitement and market-driven dynamics of auctions. It may also help franchises better address specific squad needs and attract high-profile talent.

While discussions are still at an exploratory stage, the proposal reflects the PSL’s intent to evolve alongside other major T20 leagues. Any shift would require franchise consensus and regulatory approval.

If implemented, the drauction could mark a significant change in how teams are built — and how the PSL positions itself in an increasingly competitive global T20 landscape.
