Priyansh Arya breaks into IPL 2025 Orange Cap top ten after KKR vs PBKS clash

IPL 2025 witnessed its first no-result on Saturday night in Kolkata. As a result, there were no major changes at the top of the Orange and Purple Cap standings, but performances from Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya in the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) vs Punjab Kings (PBKS) clash caused some reshuffling just below the leading names.

Orange Cap Update

Priyansh Arya, making an impressive mark in his debut IPL season with fast, consistent scoring for PBKS, became the tenth batter to surpass 300 runs this season. His brisk 69 off 35 deliveries pushed his tally to 323 runs from nine innings, moving him into the No. 9 spot. KL Rahul also sits on 323 runs but ranks tenth due to a lower strike rate.

Prabhsimran Singh, Arya’s opening partner, went one better on the night, smashing 83 off 49 balls — his highest score of the season — lifting him to 12th place with 292 runs, just behind Shubman Gill (305).

However, the bigger shake-ups could come on Sunday. Mumbai Indians (MI) face Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the afternoon, followed by Delhi Capitals (DC) taking on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the evening.

This means several players high on the Orange Cap table will be in action: Virat Kohli (No. 2, 392 runs), Nicholas Pooran (No. 3, 377 runs), Suryakumar Yadav (No. 4, 373 runs), Mitchell Marsh (No. 7, 344 runs), Aiden Markram (No. 8, 326 runs), and KL Rahul (No. 10, 323 runs). A good outing — or a slip-up — by any of them could dramatically shuffle the standings. Table-topper B Sai Sudharsan will watch closely ahead of Gujarat Titans' (GT) clash with Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Monday to see if he still holds the Orange Cap or has to reclaim it.

Purple Cap Update

After several days of a tight cluster at the top, the Purple Cap race has seen some separation. Prasidh Krishna (GT) and Josh Hazlewood (RCB) currently lead with 16 wickets each. They are followed by Noor Ahmad (CSK) with 14 wickets and Harshal Patel (SRH) with 13. A group of seven bowlers sit just below with 12 wickets each, and after the KKR vs PBKS game, Varun Chakravarthy has moved closer, joining the 11-wicket bracket.

Like the Orange Cap race, Sunday's games could also impact the Purple Cap standings. Hardik Pandya and Shardul Thakur (both on 12 wickets) will feature in MI vs LSG, while Kuldeep Yadav and Krunal Pandya (both with 12 wickets) and Mitchell Starc (11 wickets) will be in action during DC vs RCB.
