Prasidh Krishna ruled out of the New Zealand ODIs as Siraj joins India A at Hagley Oval

India's selectors have withdrawn their fast bowler from the whole white-ball leg in New Zealand and redirected two more players to the A tour

Prasidh Krishna will take no part in India's five-match ODI series against New Zealand, the BCCI confirmed in an updated squad announcement, with the fast bowler still working back from a hamstring injury.

The selection committee said he needs additional time to build up the workload international cricket demands. He is absent from both of the parties the board named — the squad for the first three one-dayers and the separate squad for the fourth and fifth.

He remains on the tour. Prasidh is set to join India A for the third and final four-day game against New Zealand A, "subject to him clearing the Return to Play (RTP) assessment", the BCCI said, a route back that points at the two-Test series beginning on 19 November rather than the white-ball matches.

A hamstring carried over from the West Indies series

The problem dates to India's home ODI series against West Indies, which Prasidh did not see out — he was ruled out of the third match of that series at the start of October and has been rebuilding since.

The board's wording points to conditioning rather than a fresh breakdown, and the clearance he needs before playing for India A is its standard return-to-play assessment.

His absence leaves Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, Anshul Kamboj and Gurnoor Brar as the seam options named for the opening three one-dayers.

Siraj added for the second four-day game

Mohammed Siraj has been added to the India A squad for the second four-day match against New Zealand A, which begins at Hagley Oval on Saturday, and he stays in both ODI squads afterwards.

The revised India A party reads: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal, Yash Rathod, R Smaran, Dhruv Jurel (captain, wicketkeeper), Washington Sundar, Siraj, Akash Deep, Shikhar Mohan, Mukesh Choudhary, Mukesh Kumar, Manav Suthar and Kumar Kushagra.

Nitish Kumar Reddy available for one ODI only

Nitish Kumar Reddy remains in the ODI squad for the first match on 4 November, and then leaves the white-ball group to join India A for the third four-day game.

The BCCI framed the move as red-ball match practice ahead of the Tests, the same reasoning it applied to Prasidh.

Gill and Iyer split the five one-dayers

For the first three ODIs India named Shubman Gill as captain and Shreyas Iyer as his deputy, alongside Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Axar Patel, Naman Dhir, Anshul Kamboj, Gurnoor Brar, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav, with Reddy added for the opener.

The squad for the last two is led by Shreyas Iyer, with Ishan Kishan as vice-captain and wicketkeeper, and brings in Tilak Varma, Auqib Nabi, Kumar Kushagra and Yash Thakur.

Rohit, Kohli, Axar Patel, Naman Dhir, Gurnoor Brar, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Arshdeep Singh, Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav are named in both.

India A still searching for first-innings runs

The reinforcements arrive with the A tour level. The first four-day game at Bert Sutcliffe Oval was drawn after India A were bowled out for 113 in reply to New Zealand A's 317.

India A answered with 516 second time around, a recovery that took the game beyond New Zealand A, who closed on 187 for 9.

Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan and Padikkal all keep their places in the India A top order for the second game.

The second four-day match starts at Hagley Oval on Saturday, with India's first ODI against New Zealand to follow on 4 November.
