Powerplay Fireworks Expected as RR and SRH Battle for Survival in Eliminator

Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad head into a high-pressure IPL 2026 Eliminator with explosive top orders, contrasting momentum and no room for mistakes.

SRH enter the knockout clash with a clear psychological advantage, having beaten Rajasthan twice already this season and extending their winning streak against RR to six consecutive matches. However, Rajasthan remain unbeaten in New Chandigarh this year, adding another intriguing layer to a contest expected to be dominated by aggressive batting.

The battle at the top of the order could ultimately decide the game. RR have been the fastest-scoring powerplay side of IPL 2026, while SRH sit just behind them in second place. Both teams rely heavily on fearless opening assaults to dictate matches early.

Much of the spotlight will naturally fall on teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who has produced one of the most explosive seasons in IPL history. The youngster has smashed 583 runs at a strike rate above 230 and remains within touching distance of Chris Gayle’s all-time IPL record for most sixes in a season.

Sooryavanshi’s rivalry with SRH’s young bowlers has already become one of the tournament’s standout subplots. After falling for a first-ball duck against Praful Hinge earlier in the season, he responded in spectacular fashion during the reverse fixture with a breathtaking 103 off just 37 balls.

SRH, meanwhile, boast arguably the tournament’s most destructive batting core. Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen have all enjoyed exceptional campaigns and are closing in on the rare feat of three batters from the same team scoring 600 runs in a single IPL season.

RR will hope experienced bowlers such as Jofra Archer and Ravindra Jadeja can slow SRH’s momentum, particularly given Jadeja’s strong record against both Kishan and Klaasen.

There are also fitness concerns surrounding RR captain Riyan Parag and Jadeja, although both are expected to play despite carrying injuries.

Conditions in New Chandigarh are expected to favour another high-scoring contest, with chasing teams having dominated at the venue this season. With power hitters spread across both lineups and recent history favouring SRH, the Eliminator promises an aggressive, high-risk contest where momentum could shift dramatically within a few overs.
