PCB Imposes Blanket Ban on Future Participation in WCL

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a blanket ban on Pakistan’s participation in any future editions of the World Championship of Legends (WCL), citing “hypocrisy and bias” by the league’s organisers.

The controversy stems from the 2025 WCL, where the team representing India forfeited two scheduled matches against Pakistan—first during the league stage and again in the semi-final. Despite India’s withdrawal, WCL awarded both teams a point each for the league match. Pakistan’s veterans team advanced to the final on a matter of points but ultimately lost to South Africa.

Following the 79th Board of Governors meeting held virtually on August 3, Chairman Mohsin Naqvi reportedly castigated the league for allowing political considerations and external influence to shape the tournament outcomes instead of cricketing merit. The PCB’s statement accused WCL of misusing the narrative of “peace through sport” selectively and condoning disruption when it suited specific national sentiment.

The PCB emphasised its commitment to separating sports from politics and making cricket a platform for fair competition and mutual respect. As such, they declared their unwillingness to let Pakistani players participate in events that “compromise the essence of sportsmanship and the gentleman’s game” due to political or commercial bias.
