Nat Sciver-Brunt Steps Down as Trent Rockets Captain to Manage Workload Ahead of Busy International Season

England Women's captain Nat Sciver-Brunt has chosen not to captain Trent Rockets in this year's edition of The Hundred to better manage her workload. While she will continue to play for the team, she has stepped aside from leadership duties following her recent appointment as England's T20I and ODI captain.

Sciver-Brunt is set to lead England in their upcoming T20I series against India, starting at Trent Bridge. This marks her third series at the helm, following emphatic 3-0 victories over West Indies in both white-ball formats. Her leadership transition comes amid a busy personal and professional period—she is recovering from a long-standing Achilles injury and recently became a mother after her wife Katherine gave birth to their son, Theo, in March.

Trent Rockets have yet to name her replacement as captain, but potential candidates include Australia’s Ash Gardner, who brings leadership experience from the WPL and WBBL, and rising star Grace Scrivens, who led England Women A in their recent tour of Australia and is seen as a future captain.

Despite playing only as a batter during the West Indies series, Sciver-Brunt remained influential, scoring three fifties, including an unbeaten 55 in a T20I at Hove. She aims to return to her allrounder role by the 50-over World Cup in India later this year.

Her teammate Tammy Beaumont praised Sciver-Brunt for her seamless transition into motherhood and captaincy, calling her "almost superhuman" for balancing both roles with such ease.

England’s upcoming series against India is expected to be more challenging, especially under new head coach Charlotte Edwards, who replaced Jon Lewis following England’s disappointing 16-0 Ashes series loss. The two teams will face off in five T20Is and three ODIs, with the 50-over leg beginning on July 16 in Southampton.
