Sunil Narine delivered an all-round match-winning performance, taking two wickets before smashing a quickfire half-century to guide Trinbago Knight Riders to a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Barbados Tridents.
Trinbago Knight Riders bounced back in style at Queen’s Park Oval, ending their three-match losing streak with a convincing seven-wicket win over Barbados Tridents in the CPL 2026.
After restricting the Tridents to 127 for 9, TKR chased down the target of 128 in just 14.5 overs, with 31 balls to spare. Sunil Narine was the star of the contest, making an impact with both bat and ball.
Narine opened the bowling and immediately set the tone, conceding just one run in his first over. He eventually finished with impressive figures of 2 for 14 from four overs.
The Knight Riders' spin-heavy attack played a major role in restricting Barbados. Four spinners combined to bowl 15 of the Tridents' 20 overs. Usman Tariq was particularly economical, returning figures of 1 for 11, while Akeal Hosein and Jyd Goolie also claimed a wicket each. Kieron Pollard chipped in with two wickets for 19 runs from his three overs.
Barbados struggled to find momentum throughout their innings. Four of their top five batters recorded strike rates below 100 despite facing at least 10 deliveries. Opener Zachary Carter top-scored with 28 from 27 balls.
Chris Green provided some late resistance, striking two sixes during his 17-ball 27 at No. 6. Rivaldo Clarke also added some valuable runs at the death, finishing unbeaten on 15 from seven deliveries, including three boundaries in the final two overs.
In reply, Narine moved back to the top of the order and produced his best performance with the bat in more than two years. He smashed five sixes and several boundaries on his way to a 33-ball 55, registering his first T20 half-century since May 2024.
Narine shared a commanding 96-run opening partnership with Colin Munro, who contributed a steady 26-ball 37. Their aggressive start ensured that TKR were never under pressure during the chase.
The Knight Riders eventually reached 128 for 3 in 14.5 overs to secure a comfortable seven-wicket victory.
For Narine, the performance was a timely reminder of his match-winning ability and provided TKR with a much-needed boost after a difficult run of three consecutive defeats.
