MI Break Jaipur Jinx with Crushing 100-Run Win Over Royals, Reclaim Top Spot

Mumbai Indians (MI) ended their 12-year winless streak in Jaipur in spectacular fashion, demolishing Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 100 runs to move back to the top of the IPL 2025 points table. In doing so, they posted the joint-highest total ever at the venue and officially knocked RR out of playoff contention.

Rohit and Rickelton Set the Tone

The MI innings began quietly, with just 16 runs coming from the first three overs. Rohit Sharma survived an early lbw scare thanks to a late DRS call and shifted gears quickly thereafter. He cleverly manipulated the field, exposing gaps and punishing both pace and spin with smart footwork and timing. His 6000-run milestone for MI was a testament to his consistency.

At the other end, Ryan Rickelton countered RR’s attempts to cramp him by powering through the leg side with short-arm pulls and clean strikes. He scored 34 of his first 51 runs on the leg side, finding boundaries with ease.

SKY and Hardik Finish with Flair

The opening stand of 116 paved the way for Suryakumar Yadav to enter with freedom—and he wasted no time. In yet another display of boundary-hitting brilliance, he smashed 48* off 23 balls, marking his 11th consecutive IPL innings of 25 or more.

Hardik Pandya joined the party, exploiting any errors in length with brutal efficiency. His 18th-over assault on Fazalhaq Farooqi yielded 3 fours and a six. The third-wicket partnership between Hardik and SKY brought 94 runs off just 44 balls. It was the first time four MI batters scored 40+ in a single IPL innings.

Royals Crumble Under Pressure

RR’s hopes rested on young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, fresh off a record-breaking century in their last big chase. But cricket’s levelling nature struck early—he fell for a duck trying to go big first ball, drawing groans from the home crowd and delight from the MI camp.

Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah then dismantled the top order. Boult dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal with a sharp new-ball spell, while Bumrah suffocated Riyan Parag with bouncers, conceding just one run from nine short deliveries.

RR slumped to 47 for 5 at the end of the powerplay. During the timeout, MI captain Hardik Pandya told his team to "finish them"—and they did. Royals were bowled out for 117 in just 16.1 overs, with Jofra Archer top-scoring and the 10th wicket producing their highest partnership.
