Major League Cricket 2025 Kicks Off in the USA

Major League Cricket (MLC) has launched its third season, running from June 12 to July 13 across three U.S. venues: Oakland Coliseum in California, Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas, and Broward County Stadium in Florida.

The high-profile opener saw defending champions Washington Freedom take on last year’s runners-up, San Francisco Unicorns, in front of a packed crowd at the Coliseum in Oakland. The format features six teams competing in a double round-robin (30 league matches), with the top four advancing to playoffs, culminating in the final on July 13 in Dallas.

This year also sees some major franchise and leadership changes:

• Jason Holder joins as captain of the Los Angeles Knight Riders, with Sunil Narine leading the side in Holder’s initial absence.

• MLC’s CEO Johnny Grave has strategically shifted the league's U.S. headquarters to Grand Prairie, emphasizing Texas’s growing status as a cricket hub.

T20 cricket in America is rapidly expanding. Franchise owners and investors believe that cricket could gain significant mainstream popularity in the U.S., especially with the sport's inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics fueling further interest and development.
