Uttar Pradesh beat Bihar by an innings and 267 runs inside three days at Rajgir, with hundreds from Madhav Kaushik and Rinku Singh and seven wickets in the match for Karan Sharma
Bihar won the toss and chose to bowl at the Rajgir International Cricket Stadium, and spent the next two days watching Uttar Pradesh bat them out of the contest. Uttar Pradesh made 540 in 153.1 overs, then bowled their hosts out for 141 and, after enforcing the follow-on, for 132.
Madhav Kaushik, who was named player of the match, made 150 from 326 balls. Rinku Singh made 112 from 168 balls for his tenth first-class hundred.
It was the heaviest of three innings victories in the round, with Mumbai and Hyderabad also winning without batting a second time.
Uttar Pradesh were three down when the pair came together on the opening day, and were not separated before stumps. Kaushik was 124 not out and Rinku 109 not out at the close, the fourth-wicket stand already past 200 and the total 287 for 3.
Kaushik's innings was the slower and the longer of the two, built on seven fours and three sixes across more than five hours at the crease.
Rinku struck eight fours and three sixes and scored at close to a run a ball either side of his hundred. Both fell on the second morning, but by then Bihar's quickest route back into the match had gone.
Where the innings might have subsided, it stretched. Aaradhya Yadav made 84, and the leg-spinner Zeeshan Ansari added 58 from down the order before he was bowled by the Bihar captain, Sakibul Ghani.
Abhinandan Singh chipped in with 43 as Uttar Pradesh batted into the second afternoon to post 540 in 153.1 overs.
The total effectively asked Bihar to bat out two full days on a surface that had given the bowlers almost nothing.
Bihar lasted barely half of one. They were bowled out for 141 in 52.1 overs, the seamer Kartik Yadav taking 4-26 from 15.1 overs and Karan Sharma 4-28 from ten.
No Bihar batter passed fifty, and the 399-run deficit left Uttar Pradesh with the simplest decision of the match. They sent their hosts back in with a day and a half still to play.
The second innings lasted 36.4 overs. Bihar reached 88 for 4, then lost their last six wickets for 44 runs.
Ansari finished with 4-40 from 8.4 overs and Sharma with 3-17 from 12, for match figures of seven for 45. The win was sealed on the third afternoon.
A half-century and four second-innings wickets made Ansari's the most complete all-round contribution of the match, in a side that had already found two centurions and two four-wicket hauls in the first innings alone.
Little went right for the home side, but Amod Yadav bowled 29.1 overs for 4-91 and was the one Bihar bowler to sustain a threat through the long first innings.
Suraj Kashyap sent down 43 overs for 3-100, and no other Bihar bowler took more than two wickets.
Their batters gave them far less. Bihar's two innings together lasted 88.5 overs and produced 273 runs, 267 fewer than Uttar Pradesh made in one.
Scorecard: Uttar Pradesh 540 (153.1 overs) beat Bihar 141 (52.1 overs) and 132 (36.4 overs) by an innings and 267 runs at the Rajgir International Cricket Stadium.
