Vijay Shankar’s unbeaten 69 off 54 was a grind. He managed just one boundary in his first 31 deliveries, struggling to find timing despite showing attacking intent. The Capitals’ bowlers expertly denied him room and used the conditions to their advantage, varying pace and lengths to keep boundaries in check. Dhoni’s Rare Appearance

With half the side back in the dugout before the 11th over, Dhoni was forced to walk in earlier than usual. Just days prior, coach Stephen Fleming had explained that Dhoni’s role was being carefully managed to limit his time at the crease. But circumstances left CSK no choice.

Chennai’s problems go beyond this single loss. Jadeja hasn’t completed his four-over quota in any match so far. Ashwin has bowled his full four only twice. The team has hit the fewest sixes in IPL 2025. Their middle order (positions 4 to 7) is averaging just 21.23—third-worst in the tournament.
