Australia completed a 2-0 T20I series win over West Indies in Kingstown with a 17-run victory built on brisk batting from Georgia Voll and Ellyse Perry, before Alana King and Kim Garth shut down a late charge led by Hayley Matthews.
Set 165 to win, West Indies were given hope by Matthews, who recovered from a painfully slow start to score 56 off 41 balls. But just as the chase began to gather momentum, King turned the game decisively in Australia’s favour. After being taken for runs early, the legspinner responded with two key wickets, removing Matthews and Stafanie Taylor to finish with 2 for 25 and earn the player-of-the-match award.
Garth’s contribution was just as important. Her new-ball spell strangled West Indies at the start of the chase, with a maiden over to Matthews helping leave the hosts under early pressure. Though she went wicketless, her four overs cost only 20 runs and ensured West Indies never fully recovered from a sluggish powerplay.
Earlier, Australia’s 164 for 5 had been driven by Voll’s explosive start and Perry’s calm middle-order hand. Voll smashed 39 from 23 balls, peppering the boundary in a forceful powerplay display that gave Australia immediate momentum. Perry then added 42 from 28 balls, striking elegantly through the off side, while Phoebe Litchfield chipped in with 35.
West Indies fought back well after the powerplay, with Afy Fletcher dismissing Beth Mooney for her 100th T20I wicket and the attack sharing the five Australian wickets. But the visitors still found enough late runs to post a competitive total.
Matthews briefly threatened to overturn the chase almost single-handedly, reducing the target to 75 from the last eight overs. Yet once King dismissed her in the 13th over, Australia regained complete control. Georgia Wareham added another wicket, and despite Deandra Dottin’s unbeaten 39, the required rate proved too steep.
For Australia, it was another clinical display and a winning start to Sophie Molineux’s captaincy stint.
