Dhruv Jurel delivered a match-defining performance with both bat and tactical awareness as Rajasthan Royals edged out Gujarat Titans in a nail-biting IPL 2026 clash.
Promoted to No. 3, Jurel justified the decision with a superb 75 off 42 balls, anchoring RR’s innings after a brisk opening stand between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. While Jaiswal initially led the charge, Jurel quickly took control, showcasing his range with five fours and five sixes.
Former players, including Aaron Finch and Ambati Rayudu, praised his composure and strokeplay, calling him an “exceptional talent” who has long flown under the radar.
But Jurel’s impact extended beyond batting. In the field, his inputs proved decisive. Working closely with Ravi Bishnoi, he helped devise a plan against GT’s left-handers by targeting the longer boundary with googlies—a move that led to key wickets, including Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar.
His most crucial contribution, however, came in the closing stages of the match. With GT threatening to chase down the target, RR captain Riyan Parag was initially set to bowl Tushar Deshpande in the 19th over and Jofra Archer in the final one.
Jurel intervened.
He suggested flipping the order—bringing Archer on earlier to attack aggressively when the equation was still manageable. The move paid off, with Archer delivering a tight 19th over that shifted momentum back towards RR, allowing Deshpande to close out the game with precision yorkers.
In a match decided by fine margins, Jurel’s dual influence—execution with the bat and sharp thinking in the field—proved decisive, underlining his growing stature as one of the most complete young players in the IPL.
