Johan Botha Joins Netherlands as Consultant for Crucial World Cup League 2 Campaign

Utrecht, July 8: Former South Africa captain Johan Botha has been appointed as a consultant for the Netherlands men's cricket team ahead of their upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 fixtures against Namibia and Nepal.

The 44-year-old will work alongside the Dutch coaching staff during the July matches in Utrecht, providing valuable experience as the Netherlands continue their push for qualification to the 2027 ODI World Cup.

This marks Botha's first coaching assignment since stepping down as head coach of Queensland and Brisbane Heat in June, despite having a year remaining on his contract. He also brings coaching experience from franchise leagues including the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Caribbean Premier League (CPL), and International League T20 (ILT20).

Expressing his excitement about the opportunity, Botha said he was looking forward to working with the players and support staff after closely following the team's progress over recent years.

A former all-rounder, Botha represented South Africa in 78 One-Day Internationals and 40 T20 Internationals during a distinguished seven-year international career before transitioning into coaching.

The Netherlands are currently in a period of transition following the departure of head coach Ryan Cook in June. Former South Africa batter Heino Kuhn, who previously served as batting coach, is currently leading the side on an interim basis.

The upcoming fixtures carry significant importance as part of the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 competition, which forms a key stage in qualification for the 2027 ODI World Cup. The Netherlands currently sit third in the standings behind the United States and Scotland, making the home series against Namibia and Nepal crucial to their qualification hopes.
