England have named two 16-player squads for next month's white-ball tour of Australia, with Jofra Archer and Jacob Bethell both back and Jos Buttler still sidelined
Harry Brook will captain England in both formats on a tour that runs from mid-November into December, taking in three one-day internationals and five Twenty20 internationals. The selectors announced the squads on Tuesday.
The significant changes are in the one-day group, where Jofra Archer comes back after being rested for England's ODI tri-series in Pakistan and Jacob Bethell returns from the knee injury he sustained during the home series win over India in July.
"The returns of Jacob Bethell and Jofra Archer for the ODI series means that we will be at close to full strength as we ramp up preparations for a World Cup in a year's time," said Marcus North, England's national selector.
Archer was rested for the tri-series in Pakistan, which runs from 18 to 31 October, and comes straight back into the one-day side for Australia.
He will not stay for the whole tour. Archer, Gus Atkinson, Sonny Baker and Josh Tongue are all due to leave once the one-day leg is finished, with England protecting their fast bowlers before a World Test Championship series in South Africa.
"The four quick bowlers will then leave after the three-game ODI series," North said.
Joe Root and Ben Duckett are among the six players chosen for the one-day leg alone, along with Archer, Atkinson, Baker and Tongue.
Bethell has not played for England since July, when the knee injury he picked up in the one-day series against India ended his summer early.
The absence cost him the Test series against Pakistan and the white-ball matches against Sri Lanka in August and September.
He is named in both the one-day and Twenty20 squads for this tour.
Ten players appear in both groups, among them Adil Rashid, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, Will Jacks, Jamie Overton, Tom Banton, Jordan Cox and Henry Crocombe.
Jos Buttler remains out of contention as he begins his rehabilitation following hamstring surgery.
Saqib Mahmood also misses out, with a knee injury. Brook captains both squads in their absence.
The Twenty20 squad carries four uncapped players, among them Thomas Rew and Eddie Jack, who earn their first England call-ups.
Rew, 18, is the youngest player named in either squad. He captained England Under-19s to the final of the Under-19 World Cup in February.
Both he and Jack toured Australia with the England Lions last year, and James Coles is also named in the Twenty20 group.
Phil Salt returns to the Twenty20 side after the quad injury that ruled him out of England's 3-0 series win over Sri Lanka, and Luke Wood is recalled. Aneurin Donald keeps his place after making his debut in that series.
The one-day series opens at Optus Stadium in Perth on 13 November, with the remaining matches at Adelaide Oval on 15 November and Bellerive Oval in Hobart on 18 November.
The Twenty20 leg begins at the MCG on 21 November and moves on to the Gold Coast, the Gabba and the SCG before finishing at Manuka Oval in Canberra on 2 December.
North said England's Twenty20 team had been in excellent form under Brook, and that the series offered a test against a strong Australia side in their own conditions.
England open the tour with a warm-up match against a Western Australia XI at the WACA Ground on 7 November.
