Ishan Kishan departs despite UltraEdge showing no contact with the bat

Ishan Kishan’s dismissal during Mumbai Indians’ clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday raised eyebrows, as replays suggested he may have walked despite not edging the ball.

Facing Deepak Chahar, Kishan attempted a glance off a leg-side delivery but seemingly failed to connect. Surprisingly, even in the absence of any appeal from the fielding side, the MI wicketkeeper Ryan Rickelton took the ball and Kishan began walking off.

Umpire Vinod Seshan initially appeared to signal a wide but abruptly changed his gesture to give Kishan out, influenced by the batter’s voluntary departure. MI skipper Hardik Pandya acknowledged Kishan’s sportsmanship with a pat on the helmet.

However, UltraEdge replays shown shortly after revealed no spike as the ball passed the bat, indicating there was likely no contact.

This was Kishan’s second dismissal of the season caught down the leg side. He departed for just 1 off 4 balls, leaving SRH reeling at 9 for 2 in 2.1 overs. The collapse continued as they stumbled to 35 for 5, eventually managing only 143 for 8—well below par against a strong MI side.

With this result, SRH remained ninth on the IPL 2025 table with just two wins in eight matches, only ahead of Chennai Super Kings. Their upcoming fixtures include CSK (April 25), Gujarat Titans (May 2), and Delhi Capitals (May 5).

MI, in contrast, are third with five wins from eight games, set to face Lucknow Super Giants on April 27, followed by Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans.
