IPL 2025: Pooran, Marsh light up Eden to reclaim top spots in Orange Cap race; Noor Ahmad holds firm in Purple Cap standings

With the competition heating up, Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh delivered statement performances at Eden Gardens on Tuesday to reassert their dominance in the Orange Cap race.

Pooran, who has led the charts for most of the season, retained his position at the top with a scintillating unbeaten 87 off just 36 deliveries against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He now has 288 runs in five innings, including three half-centuries, and shows no signs of slowing down.

Teammate Mitchell Marsh, who had briefly slipped out of the top three, stormed back into contention with a fluent 81 off 48. The knock helped Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) edge past KKR and lifted Marsh to second place in the standings with 265 runs from five innings, including four fifties.

Suryakumar Yadav of Mumbai Indians (MI) has climbed to third, overtaking Gujarat Titans’ B Sai Sudharsan. With scores of 29, 48, 27*, 67, and 28, Suryakumar sits on 199 runs — just one short of the 200-mark.

Purple Cap Leaderboard

Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) spinner Noor Ahmad continues to lead the Purple Cap charts with 11 wickets from five matches. Despite CSK’s loss to Punjab Kings (PBKS), Noor added one more wicket to his tally, finishing with figures of 1 for 32.

Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya, who had briefly drawn level with Noor on Monday, dropped to second place after Noor pulled ahead. Hardik has taken ten wickets in four matches and has been remarkably consistent throughout the tournament.

At No. 3 is another CSK player — left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed, who has also picked up ten wickets but has played five matches to Hardik’s four. He was among the standout performers on Tuesday, striking early to dismiss Shreyas Iyer and Marcus Stoinis and ending with figures of 2 for 45. Notably, Khaleel has claimed at least two wickets in four of CSK's five games, becoming a vital weapon in the powerplay.

Following close behind are Mitchell Starc, Mohammed Siraj, and Shardul Thakur, each with nine wickets, keeping the race wide open.
