India Women Aim to Extend Lead Against Zimbabwe in Historic Second T20I in Raipur
India Women will look to continue their winning run against Zimbabwe Women in the second T20 International at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur. The match is part of the first-ever bilateral international series between the two teams, featuring three T20Is followed by three One Day Internationals.
India began the series with a four-wicket victory in the opening T20I and will aim to build on that performance. Zimbabwe, meanwhile, will be eager to bounce back and level the series with an improved display.
India Recover from Early Batting Collapse
In the opening match, Zimbabwe Women posted 114/5 in their 20 overs after batting first. Sharne Mayers top-scored with an unbeaten 43, while Nyasha Gwanzura contributed 42 runs to help Zimbabwe put up a competitive total.
India's chase got off to a difficult start as they lost four wickets for just 19 runs. However, Deepti Sharma and debutant Niki Prasad steadied the innings with a crucial partnership that brought the hosts back into contention.
Deepti scored 49 runs off 37 deliveries, while Niki remained unbeaten on 39 off 35 balls. Their contributions helped India reach 116/6 in 15.4 overs, securing victory by four wickets with 26 balls remaining.
India Look to Maintain Momentum
India captain Smriti Mandhana will aim to guide her side to another victory and strengthen its position in the series. The squad features experienced players such as Harmanpreet Kaur, Deepti Sharma, Shafali Verma and Richa Ghosh, alongside younger players looking to gain valuable international experience.
The series also provides India with an opportunity to assess emerging talent and build combinations for upcoming international assignments.
Zimbabwe Target a Strong Comeback
Zimbabwe Women will focus on improving their batting performance and providing greater support to their leading scorers. The contributions of Sharne Mayers and Nyasha Gwanzura in the first match offered encouragement, but the team will need a stronger collective effort to challenge India's bowling attack.
Captain Josephine Nkomo will hope her players can deliver a more consistent performance in the second encounter. Zimbabwe's bowlers will also need to take early wickets and restrict India's scoring opportunities to put the hosts under pressure.
A victory would allow Zimbabwe to level the series and set up a decisive final T20I.
Historic Tour Offers Opportunities for Both Teams
The ongoing tour marks an important milestone in women's cricket, as India and Zimbabwe are meeting in a bilateral international series for the first time. Following the T20I leg in Raipur, the teams will compete in three ODIs in Vadodara.
The tour offers Zimbabwe valuable experience against a well-established international side, while India will look to maintain consistency and give its players opportunities to perform across both formats.
With India holding the advantage after the opening match, the second T20I presents Zimbabwe with an opportunity to respond, while the hosts will aim to extend their lead and move closer to winning the series.
