India to Host Afghanistan for Test and ODI Series in June 2026

India will host Afghanistan for a one-off Test and three-match ODI series in June 2026, marking only the second Test meeting between the two sides and their first-ever bilateral ODI series.

The standalone Test will be played in New Chandigarh from June 6 to 10. The ODI leg of the tour will follow, with matches scheduled in Dharamsala (June 14), Lucknow (June 17) and Chennai (June 20). The series begins just six days after the IPL 2026 final, which is set for May 31, giving Indian players little turnaround time before returning to international duty.

This will be only the second Test between India and Afghanistan. Their first red-ball encounter came in 2018 in Bengaluru, where India secured a dominant victory by an innings and 262 runs. Interestingly, that remains the only Test India have played at home in the month of June, making the upcoming fixture in New Chandigarh just the second such instance. The match, however, will not form part of the World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle.

The ODI series carries added significance as it will be the first bilateral 50-over contest between the two teams. India and Afghanistan have previously met in ODIs only during multi-team tournaments such as the Asia Cup and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. Across formats, their most recent clash came during the Super Eights stage of the 2024 T20 World Cup.

For India, the Afghanistan series will be their first assignment following the ongoing T20 World Cup and will kick off a packed white-ball calendar that includes a tour of England in July. Afghanistan, meanwhile, are scheduled to host Sri Lanka in the UAE shortly after the World Cup before travelling to India for the June tour.
