Four of the six players shortlisted for the ICC's September awards are Indian, with Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma on the men's list and Shafali Verma and Sree Charani on the women's
The ICC named its Player of the Month nominees for September on Tuesday, and Indian cricket dominates both shortlists. Gill and Abhishek are joined on the men's list by Zimbabwe's Sikandar Raza, while Verma and the left-arm spinner Sree Charani share the women's nominations with Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu.
The men's shortlist rests on two of the heaviest scoring months an India batter has had. Gill made a record double century in an ODI chase at Guwahati, while Abhishek reached three figures from 30 balls in a T20I against Afghanistan in Delhi.
The women's nominations follow a September in which India won both the Women's Asia Cup and the Asian Games gold medal, with Verma and Charani central to each.
Gill, India's captain and the top-ranked ODI batter, finished unbeaten on 223 from 133 balls in the second ODI against West Indies at Guwahati on 30 September, striking 26 fours and eight sixes.
He reached his double hundred from 117 balls, taking the record from Ishan Kishan, who had needed 126 against Bangladesh in 2022.
West Indies had posted 405 for 7, their highest ODI total. India chased 406 in 43.3 overs and won by eight wickets, Rohit Sharma also making a century.
Gill's month had opened with 110 from 108 balls in the first ODI at Thiruvananthapuram, where India chased down 296.
Abhishek scored 229 runs at 76.33 across the three T20Is against Afghanistan and was named Player of the Series.
He opened with 82 from 32 balls, reaching fifty from 22 deliveries, and followed it with 39 from 19.
In the third match, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on 17 September, he made 108 from 34 balls with nine fours and 11 sixes at a strike rate of 317.64. His hundred came from 30 balls, the fastest in a T20I by a batter from a Full Member nation.
India posted 221 for 7 and won by 127 runs to complete a 3-0 sweep. Abhishek is ranked second among T20I batters.
Raza was nominated for a three-match ODI series against Australia that Zimbabwe lost 3-0.
He made 57 in the first match, sharing a 98-run stand with Craig Ervine, and 45 from 45 balls in the second.
In the third, at Harare Sports Club on 20 September, he finished on 81 not out from 72 balls and took 2-42 from his ten overs, dismissing Oliver Peake and Josh Inglis. Australia won the match by one wicket.
Raza is ranked second among ODI all-rounders.
Verma scored 360 runs at 72.00 in seven T20Is in September, at a strike rate of 184.61, and took six wickets at 13.00.
She was the leading run-scorer at the Women's Asia Cup with 236 runs in five innings, making 64 in the semi-final against Bangladesh and 68 in the final against Sri Lanka.
At the Asian Games she added 188 runs in three innings — an unbeaten 40 against Japan, a maiden T20I hundred of 100 from 49 balls against Bangladesh in the semi-final, and 48 in the gold-medal match.
Charani, a 22-year-old left-arm spinner, took 18 wickets at 4.83 in seven T20Is at an economy rate of 3.30, including 4-20 in the Asia Cup final and 4-10 against Japan.
She also reached 817 rating points in the T20I bowling rankings, the highest a women's T20I bowler has recorded, passing Megan Schutt's 806.
Sri Lanka's captain made 226 runs at 37.66 in seven T20Is and took 14 wickets at 10.21.
Her figures of 7-5 against Indonesia at the Women's Asia Cup included a hat-trick.
At the Asian Games she scored 175 runs in three innings, among them 63 against Malaysia and 83 not out from 50 balls against Pakistan in the semi-final.
Voting for both awards is open on the ICC website until 10 October.
